REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Against the Tide by Kat Martin

Secrets—and safety—melt under a midnight sun…

Liv Chandler is running for her life, and the cops haven’t been able to do a thing to help. But there’s one man who makes her feel safe, no matter what…rugged charter boat captain Rafe Brodie.

To Rafe, Liv is a beautiful mystery, one he can’t ignore. He means to unearth her secrets, and in the process, if luck is on his side, maybe the spark between them will ignite.

But Liv’s past is more dangerous than Rafe could guess, and when his first mate turns up dead, she fears that she’s next. That there’s something else coming she can’t see. That even Rafe and the remote village of Valdez, Alaska can’t protect her forever…

This is book three of Kat Martin’s Brodies of Alaska series. I did not read the previous two. But this book does well as a stand alone. The story may have been richer had I read the previous two, and fans of the series will certainly like this installment.

This is the story of Rafe Brodie and Olivia Chandler as they set out to solve the mystery of a murder of one of Rafe’s employees. It mixes suspense and romance with a masterful delivery of chemistry between Olivia and Rafe.

Although I think the author a wonderful writer who weaves a plot with delightful descriptions, I felt it to be a stretch that the main characters would search for the murderer on their own, distrusting that the police can do the job. They have no obvious training as detectives. But it was a way to force the characters into proximity and allow their feelings for each other to develop.

Overall, a very likeable couple and a sweet romance. Good read.

REVIEW: The Marriage Season by Linda Lael Miller

Will the marriage pact be fulfilled? Return to Mustang Creek, Wyoming, with #1 New York Times bestselling author Linda Lael Miller for more Brides of Bliss County!

Since Hadleigh, Melody and Bex—the best of best friends—entered into a marriage pact, two of them have found (and married) the men of their hearts. But Bex doesn't think she'll be as fortunate as the others. Her own first love died years ago in a faraway war, and Bex has lost hope for a happy marriage of her own. She concentrates on her business, a successful chain of fitness clubs, instead.

Then, when single father Tate Calder comes to Mustang Creek with his two sons in tow, who befriend Bex's eight-year-old nephew, she and the handsome, aloof newcomer are constantly thrown together. But is the marriage season over? Or can a man with doubts about love be the right husband for a woman who wants it all?

RELEASES: MAY 26, 2015

My Thoughts:
Loved this book! She is such a wonderful story teller. This is book 3 of her Brides of Bliss county. I admit I have not read any of the others, but found no issues with understanding. This is a great stand alone.

This is the story of Tate Calder, widower with two young sons, and Becca “Bex” Stuart.  What a sweet romance between these two. Bex’s sister has marital problems, and leaves her six year old son Josh with Bex while she “goes to find herself.” Josh finds stability with Bex while being a part of a very loving group of adults and two little boys, with dogs, around his age to play with. Amidst this drama, Bex and Tate start dating. What evolves in a poignant story of second chance love and family.

This is a good read with excellent characters. I’d be happy to go back and read the earlier in the series after this exceptional read. There’s humor, heartache, love and a great HEA.
