Beach Reads In August Hop

I hope you haven't melted yet. It's been viciously hot here in NC, even at the beach. It's indoor beach reading weather or under-the-umbrella reading.
I'm doing a little survey on this hop. Who out there reads books self-published by the author? If so, have you found a new author you'd recommend?

As always, there's a...

  9. Hi, I really do not pay much mind to if a author is self published or not, I just find a book, likes the looks of it, and read it. I think S.M Knowles is self published and I would recomend her. thank you

  10. I know I do, but to be honest I don't pay attention to how the book was published. I concern myself with if it's written well.

  13. I've only read a handful of self-published books, and they've all been books given to me by friends (who were/are, incidentally, the authors).

I have three collected works of poetry [really meant to be, or best when, spoken aloud] that were given to me by a friend of about 20 years. He's first and foremost-- definitely-- a musician. Extraordinarily talented. Several years ago he established a local arts collective that gets new musicians off the ground. This collective is where/how he published the aforementioned books. It's not his main focus at all, though. ...I feel a bit awkward now, but probably should not disclose who my friend is. He's in two main bands, and one sets off for a European tour in less than a month. ...And I get to go along, to pitch merchandise! ...Ohh, how I wish that could be true. I'm looking at their tour dates right now, and just... (Little sigh.)

So, there's my story for you. And yes, it's all true. Yup!

  14. I do occasionally read self published books. As long as the book suits my tastes I will read it. One of my favorite self published writers is Annette Marie.
