Review: Raw Need by Cherrie Lynn

A NEW-ish BOOK FROM CHERRIE LYNN....contemporary romance at its best.
What it’s about:
Zane Larson has done everything he set out to do: conquered past demons, saved lives through his music, and toured the world as the frontman for one of the most popular rock bands in the world. This life—and an escape through music—was supposed to be everything he’s ever wanted, but after meeting Rowan, Zane’s no longer sure…

Soon after her husband’s death, Rowan Dugas learned she was pregnant. With grief and uncertainty her only companions, Rowan was only able to find an escape through music; specifically Zane Larson’s hypnotic voice. But after meeting the sexy lead singer of her favorite band, Rowan can hardly believe he’s interested in her. But Zane also has a painful connection to her unborn child - Zane's brother is responsible for her husband's death.

Torn between the only family she has left, and a life with Zane unlike anything she’s dared to dream about, Rowan’s decision will change her fate forever. This new title from New York Timesbestselling author Cherrie Lynn is a heart wrenching, emotionally intense story that will leave readers breathless.

My thoughts:
Admittedly, this one's been on my reader for a while. Finally got a chance to sit down and read it. I've been a Cherrie Lynn fan for a long time but this has to be one of her best. Loved this one. The angst, the improbable situation (a pregnant widow heroine and the famous rockstar),and the poignant moments were so great. I had not read #1 in the series, but didn't have any trouble reading this as a stand alone.
I enjoyed the delicacy that Zane handled Rowan as she copes with her husband's recent death and unexpected pregnancy. Yet, they find love in the midst of the sadness...and a lot of hotness as is a cornerstone for this author's novels. Cherrie Lynn doesn't disappoint. I was frustrated by Rowan's lack of standing up for herself, but this was great, actually, as it was on point for her character. This is not a criticism of the book. As the reader I wanted to push her into standing up for herself, but she didn't at first. Gah, it was awesome.
You gotta read this one. Nothing further to say.

An Excerpt from the Book

Take an inside look at Hooked on a Witch. Read this sizzling excerpt from the book.
"I know a lot about magic, darlin'. I know who likes black magic and who does only good magic." That was a truth stretch. He only knew when someone killed, thanks to the visions. When close to a person who used magic, he could usually detect what kind they'd practiced most recently. From her, though, he couldn't tell anything, probably because his balls were in a wad.
"I think you like the hint of badness that comes from being a called a witch." He waited, hoping she'd fill him in on how much badness was black magic and how much was sexy wickedness. The latter he could handle and would be a willing participant. Her using evil magic, maybe not a death ritual yet, but still, the darker side of magic, he didn't want to hear.
"So, you're the Santa Claus of the magic world with a naughty-and- nice list?"
"This Santa kills those on the naughty list and doesn't bring gifts to those who behave. Which list do you think you're on?"
She glared, but didn't answer. "You kill people like necromancers? They always use death energy for power."
He wanted to hit his head on the steering wheel. Would she just answer the question? "Sometimes. They don't always need a death ritual, though."
"I guess it makes sense there'd be someone out there designated to keep this in check. I haven't run across very many truly evil magical people. Sounds like a dangerous job. How do you find them?"
He shrugged.
"Why am I not on your kill list if you think I'm a bad witch?"
His heart hammered his ribs to the point of pain. Best to just throw it out there. "Do you and the other six Pleiades witches do evil things that put people at risk or kill people?"
She frowned and shook her head. "We try not to get noticed. Hurting people would definitely get us noticed. However, one of us is an ex- MI6 agent who still goes after the lowest of the low in society. Guess that counts."
She hadn't said she wouldn't do it at some point in the future, but at least she hadn't misused magic yet. His shoulder muscles loosened. "I'm sure you could be a wicked witch..."
Her cheeks flushed and she muttered, "Wouldn't you like to know."
Yeah, he would.

Books I'm Grateful I Read Hop

Welcome! It's almost the time of the year when we sit around a table with too much food, a lot of family and friends, and we get to reflect on all we're thankful for. There's so much to be thankful for. BUT instead of a profound life reason for being grateful this is way easier.
What book have you read recently that you are grateful to have read?

I'd have to say I've recently read the wonderful book, Holes by Louis Sachar. What an extraordinary talent this author has for story creation! A true inspiration to me.

OF COURSE THERE'S A GIVEAWAY! Thanks for popping by.

Spooktacular Giveaway Hop

Who doesn't love contemporary romance with paranormal twist? Why?

Admit it, we’re nuts about these otherworldly men. The fanged, then furry, the demon, the druid, the other-planetary…all of them a bad-to-the bone hero, drop dead gorgeous guys who will protect their woman to the ends of the earth. They can be superheroes, although most must be dragged kicking and screaming into a save-the-world role. Danger is his hometown. Give him some preternatural powers, and now he’s all that, plus he’s an alpha take-charge kind of guy. Swoon.

Second, we love the heroines. These are women with real problems, sometimes even everyday problems who are swept into a magical, mysterious, often dangerous, world of their supernatural guy.

Third, it’s the stories. It’s the ultimate escapism into the magical and mystical. It’s good versus evil. It’s reading a quintessential what if. This is in our time, our real world. Yet, there’s a whole lot of something not quite so normal going on. The something sucks us into a fascinating twist on modern life, an escape that ignites our imagination and is often worthy of any movie plot. A lot of these are actually made into movies we love.

And, of course, there’s always a push/pull between the characters that keep the tension hot and the passions hotter.

But, of course you're here for the contest. So, what can you WIN?

About MINE FOR THE WEEK (Wild Love Series #2):

As the top collegiate shortstop in the country, Ryan O’Donnell’s life is about discipline and training. But a growing restlessness causes him to bail on his baseball team over spring break to join his buddies at an exclusive singles resort. He just needs a few days to escape his life, and then he’ll get right back on track. But not twenty minutes after he arrives he meets HER, and the world as he knows it changes irrevocably. It should only be a hookup—that’s what spring break’s all about—but one taste of this sexy, vibrant woman isn’t enough. He has to have her. Even if it’s only for a week.

Sophie Valentine—yes, that Valentine—just found out her siblings want to sell off Crazy Hearts—the Peeps of the Valentine’s Day world. Being the youngest by eight years, she’s used to feeling left out, but selling off her family’s legacy without talking to her first? Not gonna happen. Upset, she takes off with her friends on their spring break vacation. She only wanted an escape—she never imagined meeting HIM. He’s smoking hot and intensely protective of her—and she loves it. But he’s about to start a major league baseball career, and she’s launching a battle to keep the family company. They have no future. It’s just…she’s never felt this way for anyone before.

Are they really going to walk away from this kind of connection…this passion? Or can a week turn into a lifetime?

Mine for the Week is a sizzling New Adult read. With the premise of a baseball player I was all in, but soon to realize it’s not really about baseball. My disappointment didn’t last long as I shifted expectations to a romance about our hero, Ryan O’Donnell, and our heroine, Sophie Valentine,  both in the later years of college and who are both dragged by friends to a singles-only resort in Grenada. Most people are at this particular resort for the easy hookup. Not them. They are each in the midst of a personal life crisis. For Sophie it’s about her siblings desire to sell their cookie-making company when she doesn’t want to. For Ryan it’s about being on the precipice of recruitment to professional ball (I did have issues that the author made it sound like he’d automatically jump to the majors but there’d be at least a while of hell in the minors...but no biggie). He’s burnt out after the years of go-go-go. In the middle of this they discover each other. The author did a wonderful job at exploring this crisis for each character without it overwhelming the story too much and using it as a bonding point for the characters.
Chemistry between these characters literally sizzles off the page. They were great together and I enjoyed that they didn’t jump into bed immediately. They both had some standards (well her more than him...he is a guy).
Overall a fast, fun, super hot read that I thoroughly enjoyed.
